Do you enjoy working with young people, are you curious, and do you want to pass on your knowledge? As a Senior Lecturer, you play a crucial role in educating students. In addition to providing a solid academic education, we also place a special emphasis on the personal development of students. We support students in developing curiosity and critical thinking, thereby creating a solid foundation for the professional challenges of the next generation.
Your workplace:
As a Senior Lecturer, you will mainly be teaching in the English Language Competence programme at the Department of English and American Studies. Our teaching focuses on the development of students’ English language competence at levels C1 and C2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Our team currently consists of senior lecturers, external lecturers, and a senior scientist. What makes us special as a team is our common approach to teaching advanced English, active collaboration, and a constructive feedback culture. Flexibility, continuing professional development, and systematic inquiry into our teaching practice are particularly important to us.
Your future tasks:
You actively participate in teaching (and its administration), which includes:
- Teaching English Language Competence courses according to the collective bargaining agreement (an average of 8.5 semester hours per week for half-time employment)
- Taking on administrative tasks, including test administration
- Coordinating a team of lecturers teaching the same course or module
- Implementing quality assurance measures in teaching
- Contributing to the ongoing development and standardization of the language programme
- Keeping abreast of academic research in the field of ELT
- Continuing professional development and systematic inquiry into your own teaching practice, particularly outside the teaching periods
What we expect:
We are looking for people who consider teaching at university level to be an interesting and stimulating career field. Requirements for application include:
- Completed MA TEFL/TESL, Diplomstudium in English Language and Literature (focus on TEFL/TESL), or Lehramtsstudium UF Englisch
- Several years of independent teaching at a post-secondary educational institution
- Didactic competences and experience with e-learning
- An excellent command of written and spoken English (level C2) and a good command of German (level B2)
- Excellent social and teamwork skills
- A focus on one or more of the following areas is desirable: teaching academic writing, academic reading, lexical competence, ESP, text analysis and text mediation
