When those in leadership role demonstrate lack of integrity, basic management and communication skills among a diverse population..problems are bound to arise. Relations within departments are dysfunctional creating an uncomfortable culture to work in.
Good pay for role in industry, but lack of promotion opportunities
Technical User Support Analyst (Derzeitiger Mitarbeiter) – Columbia Heights, MN – 13. Juni 2018
It's a great place to work if you start out in the right area. If you know the "right people" who work in other areas or are buddy buddy with the managers enough you can get promoted quickly. However if you don't fall under those categories you could be in an entry level role for 7-10 years before moving up if at all. Salary is competitive for the role and benefits are good, plenty of time off, but lack of stepping forward and up in a career is a huge hindrance. Management does not care about career advancement other than a "do it yourself" basis but those who get the opportunities to add to their resume fall under one of the earlier described categories. I would only recommend this company if you can start out in a mid level role or have an amazing dynamic outgoing personality to stand out in a big way.
Some free lunches, paid hourly so don't have to work overtime
Very little promotion opportunity, managers play favorites
A great company overall but some department is too segregated from Medtronic

TLDR: US IT Support Managers are motivated by nothing but promotion or looking good. They don't know anything about software engineer so they hired junior developer who want to work for Medtronic to develop software that breaks every day and reports wrong numbers just so department KPIs look good . And they blame people who developed tools when bad tools get caught. Or they hire another developer to wipe their mess when one left.
I worked at Global IT Shared Services for 3 months as a Business system analyst in Columbia Heights. Overall Medtronic is a great company and I enjoyed it every time when I was working at Mounds View Campus.
But the Global IT Shared Services lacks structure, discipline, and leadership. I worked at US IT Support Center to provide analytical/Business Intelligence solutions to the company to gather IT Service Management KPIs and apply insights to improve service quality and efficiency. But there was no official project established to implement the data-driven strategy globally, neither any department under Global IT could easily agree with each other on the right KPI to use, let alone to ensure the quality of data gathered and analyzed.
The local IT managers in the US IT Support Center then only care about their numbers or BI solutions 'look better' compared to their peers in Europe and other regions, when reported to their own management under the motivation of wanting to be promoted. Because of this kind culture, poor quality reporting applications were developed and put into production under managers' requests.
And the lack of documentationmehr... on source code, KPI formulas, or system changes often result in system failing in production level and conflicting or wrong numbers being reported to the next -level management. And local managers would blame the developers/analysts if next-level managers question the validity of the KPI values, yet they did not agree on more time/effort needed at first place to guarantee the quality of the software during development.Weniger

Best profile and industry to work with to progress the learning and improve productivity
Role - Clinical Application Specialist (Ehemaliger Mitarbeiter) – India – 11. Juni 2018
Medtronics have left me with ample amount of reasons to account the success of my career with them. The technical knowledge as well as behavioral skills have developed tremendously during the service with them.
I could expertise on email etiquette, telephonic etiquette and also in managing the customers and could improve my learning curve as well the productivity of the firm.
IT was pretty good job. Management was a little sloppy and very favoritism. Other than that hours and pay was excellent. The hardest was the people because if you were to yourself too much they mess with you.
I was able to gain a lot of knowledge and was able to move up within the company. A typical day consisted of keying information into the database, scheduling, dealing with potential customer and providing feedback.
