I’m a current operator at Stora Enso in Raceland, LA. Ive been an employee for about 3 years. A lot has changed since I’ve started and all for the better. Management team is tremendously better. Compensation is competitive with the river. Benefits are competitive and in some cases better than plants down the river. A lot of opportunity for growth and to learn. Operations team is stronger than ever. Engineering team is stronger tha ever. Change happens frequently with the process due to being a demonstration plant but managers and engineers do a good job of making things clear.
The job changed often. It’s a demonstration plant so things were different day to day. The job was made more difficult when changes weren’t communicated. Management left a little to be desired, especially in the lab. It’s a great place to learn if you don’t have a lot of experience but it is a stepping stone. The pay got better over time but it’s not a place to retire from.
Culture of doing the right things, with highest standards of compliance. Good example of teamwork. But its way of doing business is not competitive in emerging markets. Overall, this is a company which one should feel proud of if he or she has worked for it.
